Maritime Week Africa is back in Cape Town!
Maritime Week Africa is the longest-running and most popular bunkering event in Africa. It has earned a reputation for attracting the most eminent industry and government speakers, bringing together key bunker buyers and suppliers, as well as ports, refiners, regulators, and other leading maritime professionals to highlight the unique issues and opportunities relating to the African bunkering industry.
⚓OVERVIEW
In 2025, Maritime Week Africa was held in Mauritius and focused on traditional bunkering in Africa and the Indian Ocean, as well as the energy transition. It examined how geopolitics has impacted voyage patterns and bunkering demand, and – in a specially convened expert session – looked at how the fiscal and legal problems that have for some time been damaging South Africa’s reputation as a viable bunkering hub.

In 2026, the conference will pick up on the environmental and geopolitical issues raised in Mauritius but will also reexamine the issues that still appear to be holding South Africa back. With important interventions anticipated from South Africa’s Department of Transport, Transnet National Ports Authority and SAMSA, as well as representations from the South African Revenue Service (SARS), and leading members of the bunkering supply infrastructure, there will be ample opportunity to investigate the outstanding issues and seek some viable and long-term solutions.
The conference programme will also look at shipping and bunkering markets in other parts of Africa, including offshore and on neighbouring islands.
Besides the Flagship Conference, the week will include a training course, two busy networking lunches and two spectacular evening receptions, and a relaxing and instructive waterborne tour of Cape Town Harbour.
