China taps ultra-deep oil reserves 6,000 metres deep as global energy turmoil continues

China is accelerating ultra-deep oil and gas development to expand domestic supply amid global energy uncertainties, with advances in exploration and extraction technologies unlocking harder-to-recover resources. One key frontier is the resource-rich western region of Xinjiang, where PetroChina’s Hade-Fuman oilfield has produced more than 26 million tonnes of oil equivalent from reservoirs more than 6,000 metres underground, according to state broadcaster CCTV on Monday.
