Shell’s newly released LNG Outlook 2026 suggests the global LNG industry is entering another period of sustained expansion, with demand for liquefied natural gas projected to increase by around 65% by 2050. This projected growth brings the practical requirements of the sector’s next phase into focus, forming the basis for discussion at the 13th International LNG Congress (LNGCON) 2027, taking place in Amsterdam on 1-2 March as a closed-door B2B Congress for the global LNG sector.
Growing demand is only one part of a much broader transformation. The forecast reinforces the long-term importance of infrastructure, secure supply and continued investment across international markets. New import terminals, liquefaction projects, FSRUs, marine fuel infrastructure and cross-border supply networks continue to reshape international gas markets. Investment increasingly targets reliable operations, efficient logistics and secure transportation as around 345 bcm per year of new LNG export capacity comes online between 2025 and 2030. This expansion increases the value of practical expertise and collaboration across the LNG value chain.
These priorities are reflected throughout LNGCON 2027. Hosted by Shell in partnership with TotalEnergies, Wood and Nordsol, the Congress welcomes senior representatives from Eurogas, Evonik Operations, Orlen, KN Energies, DESFA, Reganosa, Fluxys, Chiyoda Corporation Netherlands, St1 Biokraft, VTTI and other key industry players.
From large-scale infrastructure projects and engineering solutions to terminal operations, LNG reliability and digital technologies, the programme follows the industry's most significant trends. Marine fuel topics are explored through contributions from Samir Fernandez, Director Marine Fuels & Heavy Products Trading at Moeve, and Didier Daems, Head of Marine LNG Business Development at Shell, while Stefano Murace, Policy Advisor at Eurogas, offers insight into the regulatory framework shaping the sector.
